Being productive online is hard work.

I sometimes get lost in tweeting my soul off, or deleting emails that offer me penis enlargements. A 30 % increase in size seems seductive, but I need to get my stuff done !

Here’s the mindset that helps me stay on task, followed by the free programs that back me up.

Get inspired and become super-productive !

  • I force myself to do it

I used to be a huge fan of self-discipline, but then I switched to “do what feels right you for!”. Well, filling out my tax report never feels right for me, but I have to do it anyways. Sometimes you have to force yourself to do it – even if you don’t feel like it. Even if you feel like making magic with your loved one. No ! You are a professional, and a professional gets the job done ! The more you practice (endure?) self-discipline, the easier it will be.

  • I get into state

Let’s face it – sitting on your fat-ass and hitting the keyboard all day can be tiresome, especially if you are young. Before I glue my eyes to the screen, I work out:

Doing exercises. Going outside and running like a monkey on fire (while listening to my favorite music ). Whatever. I move my body until I’m exhausted. I take a quick shower and go to my computer. Then I use incantations:

Mars, you will rock this day. YOU WILL ROCK !

Mars, you are the man. You are the FREAKING MAN !

Mars, let’s do this. LET’S DO this !

I know this sounds a bit wacky, but a “war cry” activates your whole body. You feel like taking on the whole world, and that’s a grrreat feeling !

Always work your body before you sit down for a long time. Get into a positively aggressive state, and then work. Trust me. It’s white magic.

  • I listen to music

Some say it’s better to do your work quietly.

Poor souls, have they never worked with some jamming music in the background ? A cool beat that relates to your workflow is AWESOME. The better the beat, the more I get done. The rhythm synchronizes with your soul, and you feel like flowing into your work. The worker disappears, only the action remains.

Stillness is overrated. Put on your favorite music while doing online work and witness the magic. It will come !

  • I use these 3 free and ass-kicking tools:

Online Stopwatch

stopwatch.jpg.w300h165

This picture looks like the setup of a time bomb. But the only thing it will blow up is your procrastination !

Online stop watch is the number 1 drug for all productivity junkies. It’s a cool website that lets you set a count down to your activities.

For all of my major tasks, I “punish” myself with a time limit that’s a bit unforgiving – which means it’s freaking short !

The “ringing” sound is painful to hear, but that’s part of the process. When I don’t achieve my task in the required time, I give myself a new time limit after finishing my other work.

Laser-sharpen your focus – “digital deadline” yourself ;)

tungle-me-large

Tungle me ! Tungle me goood ! I want to tungle you like you have never been tungled before !

*cough* Enough with the bad joking – “Tungle Me” is the best FREE online scheduling service known to human kind. In fact, it’s better than the most paid ones, which is quite an achievement !

It’s super easy to use, and it let’s you schedule on-and offline meetings around the world. It rocks like magic, especially if you want to set up webinars and online coaching meetings, because it adjusts the time zones ! Nice.

I have tungled with a few people, and I enjoyed it…a lot. YOU might be next ;)

Bumptop – A program that’s 5-10 years ahead of its time

bump-top-2

This is the future of productive desktop-ing. In 5 years, we will all have it, but right now, it’s magic for the early adopters.

It’s hard to explain what Bumbtop is, you have to experience yourself ;)

Basically, it’s a program that makes your desktop 3 dimensional. Mine looks a living room, where I order my files and links like physical things. It comes with your basic desktop (your “ground”) and 4 walls that surround it. You can put any file on any wall – man, it’s mind-blowing. You can even determine the size of your icons, and rotate them. The camera moves to the spot where you click – it’s fully 3 dimensional desktop-ing at its best.

Not only will your desktop look like a piece of art, it will also dramatically help you organize it !

Here’s the thing – the program is really hard to get. The company sold it to Google (those bastards !), but some webpages still offer it. Google Bumbtop and be a little persistent, because it literally changed the way I work !

Facebook

Being productive can seem like a daunting task sometimes, especially if you work online. I use the right mindset, linked to a healthy body, supported by the some ass-kicking programs.

What do YOU do to be productive online ? Shoot me in the comments, and make some nice suggestions !

And please retweet and Facebook share this post !

  • http://www.trippingmom.com Marilia

I´ll have to check on those Tungle me and Bum Top.

I do what everyone does, stick to schedules, force yourself to do stuff like you mentioned, have fun to get inspired and besides doing the work I have faith on it, something like positive thinking.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Marilia,

yep, positive thinking always helps, and backed up by incantations, it's pure magic !
Definitely use Tungle me – it's freaking awesome !

  • http://www.thelifething.com Go Jonny Go

Ok, so bump top looks pretty damn cool, if a little crowded for my liking.

If you don't have one already you should have a signup email address you use for signing up to anything online, for example jonny.signupmail@gmail.com.

When it gets full of crap you just replace it and it protects your lovely main email addresses from all that penis enlargement mail though I've never really got any, must just be you Mars, :)

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

haha, must be just me Jonny, thank heavens I don't get them via googlemail.
I still have an old german email account, that's a pure penis spam attractor !

Bumbtop is AWE-some ! But it's quite a pain to find nowadays – officially it's out – you really have to search for it !
      Then again, it's a pure revelation !

  • kristinglasbergen

I need the automatic time zone correction feature. Time zones and I have a lot of trouble playing nice together.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

Hey Kristin, I HATE the time zone problems. Thanx to that problem, they are solved…for goood !

  • http://23ca.wordpress.com Clay Forsberg

Periodically clean out and modify who you follow on Twitter, and blog subscriptions for that matter. As you move along “the road to your Perfect World,” your informational needs and wants change. Keep your external flow in sync with your internal flow.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Clay,

that is are pretty ass-kicking paragraph you have created there.
I agree – outer and inner world have to be synchronized in order for maximum kick-ass (digital) domination.

  • Clint

I came across Scheduly a few months ago and i love it
    http://www.scheduly.com

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

That's cool a website design – I like the cartoony style. I'll check out the trial version. Thanx !

  • http://www.biggirlbranding.com/about Big Girl Branding

Hmnn..gonna have to try the workout till you drop thing before sitting to work.. maybe all the revved blood flow will keep me from the midday yawn attack I always end up getting when I stay up too late. lol

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Cori,

WORK OUT ! Seriously, get that bloodstream flowing !
You don't want to lose your brain capacity because you only train your ass muscles !
It brought the quality (and endurance) to a new level !

  • http://intelligines.com/ Gines

These are pretty cool, Mars. I'm going to check out Tungle and hope to find Bump Top. Clint mentioned Scheduly. That looks pretty cool too.

Point #1 and #3, I do that too. I need to get more into state.

Thanks for sharing. Have a good one.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

Getting into state is the best way to prepare for sit-on-your-ass-all-day-work !

I have tested Scheduly yesterday, but I still prefer tungle me – it's beautifully easy and effective to use.

  • chriskelly1

Listening to music is best when working, but I prefer music without lyrics. Enya can be pretty good for this, good mixture of fast and slow tunes.

    Bump top looks cool.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

I have heard of her, it's that spiritual flavored type, right ?
Definitely going to check her out.
Thanx for tip my friend !

      • chriskelly1

Yeah, its kind of spiritual, but different. Normally I listen to rock, but not when working.

Another thing that helps with deadlines is Write or Die. Its a program that you set a word goal and time limit and after so long it starts deleting what you've already wrote.

  • http://www.financiallydigital.com Nunzio Bruno

Wow those were some pretty cool tools. I knew about the stop watch but Tungle and the desktop mod were pretty awesome. I'm implementing them as we speak! I can't agree with you more as far as hyping yourself up and actually getting physical to get the blood flowing. I try to hit the gym every morning before work and it really does make a difference. It shows in my interpersonal stuff (client one on one's), online with my social media and even at Financially Digital if I'm having a rough day or two.

    • http://www.financiallydigital.com Nunzio Bruno

This post actually was so awesome I through it in my unofficial weekend carnival. Thanks again!

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Nunzio,

getting physical is THE way to go. Moving that body, action, moving your body, action – and then rock your PC – go !

And definitely, use TungleMe, it's freaking awe-some.

  • http://www.ideasbubble.com Peter @ideasbubble

Bumptop looks amazing, i'm going to look for it now, there better be somewhere out there with a copy of it. xD

  • http://www.socialcubix.com/services/facebook-connect Facebook Connect Integration

Oi Mars, thanks for sharing yet another secret of yours :)

Bumptop looks the most interesting to me, but dammit you're right, its a real pain in the arse to find this one! :D

Tungle.me looks EPIC too, of course who doesn't wanna get organized and scheduled!? :)

Awesome stuff, even awesome to see they're FREE :)

    Cheers!
    -Desmond!

  • http://twitter.com/josh_crocker Josh Crocker

    Bumptop! Rockin'!

Thanks for sharing duuude! You're the man!

    - Josh

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Josh,

thanx, but I'm likely to drop these kinds of posts. There just not as inspirational !
Although some people do enjoy the value they get from them…mmm.

  • http://www.tammycamp.com Tammy Camp

Ooh, I do love your little lists of goodies! I already use Tungle; much likey. Bumptop looks . . . confusing! But am off to check it out properly; mainly because I want to be 5-10 years ahead of the game!

  • Kim Jensen

A little penis enlargement goes along way! That being said; My fav re-grouping happens in the morning with the paper. I never read it I write the paper. I seem to feel more open in the early hours before the kids and dogs..etc wake up for there feedings. Ideas come to me, seemingly out of the blue, I write them down and begin to create a loose schedule for the day.I like the freedom I allow myself in going with what feels good within day-tight-compartments.

  • http://fungeezer.com Steve Thomas – fungeezer

The timer thing is huge for me. It gets to be a game to see how much I can get done in that amount of time. I am so much more productive when I use a timer.

Exercise is key too! I nearly ruined my body by sitting in front of a computer for ten hours a day. I got to where I could barely get out of the chair. On the way back now, Dude!

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

Hey Steve, man, that story about you and getting out of your chair is terr-ible. I never experienced that before, because I make sure I do some exercise before the I sit on my ass.
And yeah – the timer thing is brilliant. Although I don't use it as often as I should, it works like white magic if I do !

      • http://fungeezer.com Steve Thomas – fungeezer

        Yeah, don't stop that exercise!

I know what you mean about the timer. I think I used mine once today and the rest of the time got so caught up in doing things that I forgot!
