How I Plan my Digital Conquest

Essence written in on a cool planet pic

You know I’m all about thinking big and delusional, but even the wildest fire needs to be controlled in order to spread effectively !

I luv coming up with new ways and strategies, and I even luv basic planning when it’s done in a very creative (and visual) matter !

Everyone has their own way of planning their digital destiny, this how I do it !

  • Measure everything in Limbos. Remember when I talked about that awesome Tomato Time Technique ? Measuring every activity in 25 min chunks, taking a 5 min break and repeating it all over ? Well, Pomodoro isn’t really a cool word (sorry, Italian language!)  And that’s why I go for Limbo.                                                            A Limbo is a fictional time unit from an American cartoon series from the 80s. It’s about space rangers taking care of the Limbo Galaxy, and in that universe every thing is measured in Limbo – Limbo minutes – Limbo dollars – Limbo velocity. My definition of a Limbo = 25 mins of focused work + 5 min break !

Writing this post: 2 Lbs

Reading blogs: 3-5 Lbs

Networking: 4 – 6 Lbs etc.

  • Creative concepts

Mars Dorian and Sketch bookWhen it comes to creating new ideas for my blog and my digital destiny, I get my itching hands on a pen and some good old paper (it does still exist). The pic above shows my personal bible of Mars Dorianess – Every noteworthy idea – feasible or not – will be manifested in ink ! I luv drawing and sketching.

  • Everything is art, baby !

I always have the approach of an artist, and that means I treat every digital step in the web like a piece of art. The way I comment, the way I photoshop my pics and the process of crafting each blog post – it’s all pure art to me, and I hope you see the difference !

  • Always think in terms of “This week” and “The new future”.

Screw detailed 5 year plans. The internet is changing way too fast for that. That’s why I only plan for this week (How can I make the best out of it?) and the near future ! Knowing where I am and where I want to go is all I need – let the universe decide the rest !

Current strategies for spreading my brand :

Writing at least 2-4 guest posts a month

Connecting with a small tribe of like minded Revoluzzers to cross promote

Tweeting and retweeting my and others stuff like hell

Commenting on other cool blogs and establish genuine connections

Establishing a kick-ass communication with my readers (YOU !)

That’s where I state my main goals, beautifully arranged in the form of a mind map. I use a kick-ass software for that, VUE, which you can download for free on this site.

It’s mind-ilicious for grasping the overview – it puts some nice structure to your digital campaigns. I luv creative structure !

Honestly, that’s all I do. It’s fun, it’s creative and very visual – that’s why it’s working like white magic for me !

Those are my ways, what are YOURS ?? And do you have better (more efficient) ones ? Tell me.

Please Retweet and share these ideas, IF you like them !

Want to turn visitors into raving customers ?

Fuck yeah !

This is my favorite ecourse for people that HATE sleazy online marketing but want to make money from their site. It's genuine, entertaining and packed with valuable info that helps you make your website profitable like hell.

BTW - I use it myself successfully. It rocks. That's why I'm an affiliate for it ;) Get more visitors to buy your stuff image

Coming here is like a caffeine generated rollercoaster! I love it. I love thinking here and now. We could die tomorrow, so do everything you can today to reach your goal.
Your visual style is impressive and it gives people that “Wow” factor! Good stuff.
I don't understand the line about: Writing at least 2-4 blog posts a month. Only 2 a month? huh? What am I missing here?

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

Hey Richard, thanks for dropping by. Yeah, I want you to feel the full brunt of my creative energy !
      Oh yeah, that's a mistake – I just corrected it ! I meant 2 – 4 GUEST posts a month !

  • http://bitesizeidea.com/ Damien Olenslager

Oh man, I love tactical posts like these from rising stars. I need all the inspiration I can get for my own journey.

One question: I'm sort of apprehensive to tweet my posts more than once, am I stupid? How many times do you retweet one of your own posts?

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

Hey Damien, the first time I retweet is by pushing the button, after that I'm copying the URL and paste it into my Tweetdeck and hit enter !

    Hey Mars…

I love the post! Would you believe it if I had told you that my journal looks exactly like your… except that I have coloured non-lined paper.

I'm a bit of a Feng Shui & Law of Attraction nut so I use the colours to “silently” attract…doing this method is just the best way to make your brain think so much better!

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Thanks Katey,

Whatever works for you ! And I'm also quite interested in the law of attraction, at least the Karma-ish part. I still believe that thinking and wishing isn't enough, you still have to take massive action !!

    overtweeting is not good.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

You misunderstood me. I don't mean overt-weeting your post like 20+ times. I mean that I use Twitter over-excessively by pretty much retweeting everything I like.

      • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

It's all about training your audience to get used to it. I tweet a ton too :)

  • http://nathanhangen.com/blog Nathan Hangen

Everything is Art sounds like a book title. You should write it…I mean that.

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Nathan,

I'll think about it ;), but for now, I'm just obsessed with spreading my blog influence and causing a creative ruckus !

  • http://hotblogtips.com/ Keith Bloemendaal

Guest posting is a great way to broaden your readership (anytime you want send me one!) I try to do it a few times a month myself.

I am trying to use more types of media to broaden my reach. Video, podcasts, webcast etc… I have gone a little crazy with video lately, but that is because I got a new HD webcam and I am like a kid on Christmas with it still!

Great post, and sorry it took so long for me to get over here!

    • http://www.marsdorian.com/ Mars Dorian

      Hey Keith,

Nice to see you here, I know your blog through James.
I'm in love with video as well,
HD webcam ? Dude, that sounds awesome ! But that must be one heck of a file to process ( I use my SD cam, and I'm already pushing Viddlers limits !)
You have to think twice about offering my a guest post, my style is not for everyone ;)

      Hey Diggy,

Ah, I don't need luck, I think it's my destiny.
I checked your blog – it's kickin-ass, message and design-wise. This is your line “…building up my business empire” Looks like I'm not the only megalomaniac here ;)
